Marina del Rey is a seaside town on the West side of Los Angeles. Located adjacent to one another on the Pacific coast south of Santa Monica, Venice and Marina Del Rey are two of L.A.’s popular waterfront communities. Both have a great location with beaches and local amenities, plus easy access to freeways, LAX, and the rest of the Los Angeles Westside.

Venice and Marina Del Rey boast a great range of residential living options. Both areas have a number of extremely popular newer condo buildings — Latitude 33 and Dogtown Station in Venice, Azzurra and The Cove in Marina Del Rey — and both also have great neighborhoods full of single-family homes. The Venice Canals neighborhood even offer single-family residences right on Venice’s peaceful man-made canals, in every architectural style from ultra-modern to traditional cottages, and with small private dock access right in your own front yard.

Home prices in Venice and Marina Del Rey cover a wide range. Smaller homes located outside of the most desirable neighborhoods can be found for as little as $500,000, while the majority of homes fall in the $1-2 million range. Properties located adjacent to the beach on Ocean Front or Pacific or close to the marina itself are usually priced from $3 to 5 million.

Condos in the area start at around $350,000 and can go up to $2 million or more for large units or penthouses in the newest and most popular buildings.

You don’t need to have a sailboat to enjoy the water at Marina Del Rey. There is so much to see and do here. You will also love the many fine Marina Del Rey restaurants serving great seafood and California cuisine dishes, most with a great waterfront view.

Southern California -Marina Del Rey is known for its huge marina, sailing clubs and millionaire’s yachts, you’ll love the many scenic waterfront areas, to walk, or bike along the ocean. Marina Del Rey is a costal unincorporated area of Los Angeles County. Marina Del Rey offers 19 marinas containing 5,300 ships and is one of the largest man-made small boat harbors in the United States. The marina is a specially designed harbor featuring moorings for small boats and pleasure crafts.

Originally conceived by M.C. Wicks in 1887 as a major commercial harbor. He raised $300,000 for construction over a 3-year period. Wicks went bankrupt and the area was then taken over by duck hunters. But in 1916 the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reported that the new proposal to develop Playa del Rey Inlet and basin was impractical. But in 1937 there was competition and the decision went to San Pedro and went on to form the Los Angeles Harbor. However this lead Marina del Ray to make a focused towards a harbor for small crafts.

In 1954 President Eisenhower signed Public Law 780, thus making Marina Del Rey an authorized federal project. This was a 50-50 sharing of the cost between the federal government and the County of Los Angeles. Formal dedication of the harbor was held on April 10, 1965. This included a total cost of 36.25 million dollars for land, initial operation, bond service, and construction.

Venice is one of L.A.’s most bohemian and artistic communities. The area has a terrific youthful vibe, is full of colorful buildings and homes, street art, and murals, and is host to a huge range of creative outlets ranging from high-end art galleries to tattoo parlors. The trendy Abbot Kinney area has tons of shopping and outdoor dining, galleries, night spots and more. Venice Beach offers sidewalk artists, bike rentals, loads of outdoor activities, plus the famed Muscle Beach and even a skate park. Both areas have plenty of options for outdoor activities, including parks like Linnie Canal in Venice and Burton Chace Park in the Marina, plus bike, boat, motorcycle and sailboat rentals, sport-fishing charters and more.
